Players calling the United Kingdom and Ireland home enjoyed some large scores last week, resulting in a shake-up of the online poker rankings, provided by PocketFives. That said, ranking sites such as the Global Poker Index and PocketFives do a sterling job of making the best out of a bad situation, and those are the two systems that the UK & Ireland PokerNews. British and Irish poker players have been logging some incredible volume at the online tables these past couple of weeks. When great players play a lot of poker, they tend to get their hands on massive scores. That’s exactly what’s happened.

Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford enjoyed a fruitful week, one that saw him soar to the top of the UK standings and to second in the world. Beresford started by banking $13,675 for a fourth-place finish in the PokerStars$1,050 Daily Warm-Up.

He then scooped several four-figure prizes before landing the $180,438 top prize in the $5,200 NLHE 8-Max High Rollers Kickoff at PokerStars. That is Beresford’s largest online cash to date. We only hope he updates his partypoker alias on his PocketFives profile so he starts challenging the seemingly uncatchable Niklas “Lena900” Astedt in the worldwide rankings.

Beresford leapfrogged Patrick “pleno1” Leonard in the UK standings. Leonard has been suffering with the coronavirus yet still managed to get his grind on and bag some big scores. He won the PokerStars Big $215 for $5,351, scooped $8,681 for a runner-up finish in a $75K Gtd Bounty Hunter at partypoker and walked away with scores of $32,408 and $22,827 in PokerStars High Rollers!

The rankings have two new names in them this week. Daniel “judgedredd13” Charlton returned to the top 20 on the back of his $25,000+ prize for finishing second in the PokerStars $1,050 Sunday Cooldown PKO.

Ryan “ryanp” Plant is the other new name. Plant won the GGMasters at GGPoker for a cool $60,754 and won another $23,114 less than 24-hours later in the GGPokerZodiac Dragon High Roller. Plant is definitely one to watch in the coming weeks.

Several other of our players padded their bankrolls with sizeable prizes last week.

Tyler “wonderboy222” Goatcher continued his purple patch with a $28,158 prize in a partypoker POWERFEST PKO event, a similar prize Patrick “thebigdog09” Brooks netted for winning a $150K Gtd POWERFEST PKO; Brooks won $27,084.

Ben “jenbizzle” Jones scooped a $37,169 prize at PokerStars while the legendary Chris “Moorman1” Moorman won $13,088 in a $30,000 Gtd event at WSOP Nevada.

Ronan Sweeney Still Leads in Ireland

Ronan “Sw33ney” Sweeney is still top dog in the Emerald Isle and is so by almost 400 points. While he didn’t bank any huge scores last week, he did win the Big $109 at PokerStars for $10,576 the day after the rankings’ update so expect Sweeney’s lead to extend.

Sweeney’s nearest rival is James “Jaymo” Noonan who locked up a prize of more than $7,600 when he finished third in a PokerStars France Super Monday tournament. Noonan plays a lot of poker and does have a realistic chance of reeling Sweeney back in.

“Rowniwn” got their hands on several four-figure prizes last week with the largest weighing in at $8,180. This was their reward for finishing sixth in a $1,050 High Roller Series event at PokerStars.

Climbing from seventh-place to fourth this week is Sven “SvenCalls” McDermott. He went on a heater and won more than $8,000 when he took down the $27 Saturday Eliminator at PokerStars. That result was sandwiched between a $5,766 and a $2,212 score, both coming at ‘Stars too.

One of the biggest scores by an Irish player went to Conor 'ccoonnoorr” O’Driscoll when he finished second in the Bigger $55 at PokerStars. It was an impressive result that netted Limerick man a $10,629 addition to his bankroll.

Finally, a few Sunday Million deep runs for Nicholas “YerSoLucky” Newport see him return to the Irish top 20. Newport finished 14th in a Sunday Million for $5,323 and cashed in the 14th Anniversary edition for an additional $4,082.

Players calling the United Kingdom and Ireland home enjoyed some large scores last week, resulting in a shake-up of the online poker rankings, provided by PocketFives.

Perhaps the most notable changes are Chris “Moorman1” Moorman dropping out of the UK’s top 20 for the first time we can remember, and Ireland’s Dan “NukeTheFish!” Wilson removing his aliases from his profile.

In more positive news, Mustapha “lasagnaammm” Kanit continued his climb up the rankings with a trio of high stakes victories at PokerStars. Kanit secured the $43,714 top prize of the $1,050 Sunday Warm-Up after winning both the $1,050 Sunday Cooldown PKO and $530 Bounty Builder for combined prizes way in excess of $100,000.

The Italian also banked two Poker Masters titles at partypoker. The first netted him $279,300 and the second $237,732. These events were played with real names displayed so don’t count towards Kanit’s rankings score.

Double Sunday Million winner Rob “rtinnion” Tinnion returned to the top 20 this week after seven deep runs. The first was a second-place finish in the GGPoker Zodiac Dragon High Roller for $21,825 with another second-place finish coming in the $215 Super Tuesday Early Edition at PokerStars for $4,002. A couple more runner-up finishes added more than $3,300 to Tinnion’s bankroll before he collected $2,958 for winning the Zodiac Horse Bounty at GGPoker.

At the top of the standings, it is still Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford who leads the way. It was a relatively quiet week by his super-high standards. Second-placed Patrick “pleno1” Leonard closed the substantial gap slightly by taking down the GGS 242-HR: $5K at GGPoker for $92,685.

Elsewhere, Patrick “thebigdog09” Brooks enjoyed himself in PokerStars’ Bounty Builder tournaments. He finished second in a $109 buy-in edition for more than $11,000 and won a $215 buy-in Bounty Builder for more than $10,000.

Ben “jenbizzle” Jones netted one of the biggest prizes of the week, one worth $113,673. Jones collected this princely sum for finishing fourth in a $10,300 High Rollers event at PokerStars, but strangely the points haven’t been added to his PocketFives profile.

Special mentions also go to Henri “Buehlero” Buehler who won two GGPoker tournaments and is now ranked ninth in the UK. Also to Sam “TheSquid” Grafton whose weekly highlight was a $14,081 score at PokerStars. Finally, a doff of the cap to Jareth “jareth3542” East who won a GGPoker GGSeries event for $11,005. He also won the partypoker MILLION for $132,200 but that came too late to appear in this week’s update.

Prendiville With a $23K Score as Wilson Departs

The Irish top 20 is practically the same as last week with Dan “NukeTheFish!” Wilson being a notable absentee. Wilson decided to remove his aliases from his PocketFives account thus no longer appearing in the rankings.

Many players do this for some additional privacy at the tables. Hopefully, the former Irish number one will have a change of heart.

“L0rdZeus11” is the name that replaces Wilson in the Irish standings. He finished second in the Bigger $22 at PokerStars for $7,325 and put a deep run together in the $1,050 Turbo Series Main Event for $5,477.

“fastfingers” still leads thanks to a second-place finish in the Winamax GLADIATOR for $5,356 but James “Jaymo” Noonan is hot on his heels. Noonan helped himself to a $3,000 score at PokerStars and one worth almost $5,000 at PokerStars’ French site last week.

Victory in the Bigger $11 at PokerStars padded Sven “SvenCalls” McDermott’s bankroll by $1,520, but it was Sean “monkeybudgie” Prendiville who scooped the largest prize of the Irish contingent. He won the $109 NLHE 8-Max Deep Stacks Turbo Series tournament at PokerStars for $23,010. This was enough to push Prendiville into the Irish top 5.

More than $3,000 made its way into the PokerStars account of Brendan “daehbonk” Naughton after he triumphed in the $22 Mini Triple Threat 3-Max PKO while Nicholas “YerSoLucky” Newport won the Hot $22 PKO, a new PokerStars tournament, for more than $6,000.
